019 - Year 2 Summed Up!
Here’s the summary of Year 2 lessons.
- Light, the most important element in photography, is faster than a drunken leopard.
- Like leopards, they come from different sources, and have different properties.
- Some are natural (Sun, Moon, stars, fire)
- Some are man-made (Torchlight, iPods, cellphones)
- In photography, there are two main sources.
- Natural (Sun, Moon, fireflies), and artificial (flash gun, softbox, spotlight).
- We can manipulate it to our will to give more impact to our pictures.
- Enter the reflected light, the diffused light, the bounced light, and many more.
- Reflected light technique can be done with a simple piece of cheap white Styrofoam.
- This technique is only suitable for places that have some strong source of light from one side.
- But it ain’t practical if you’re just having a good time at a barbeque.
- The diffused light technique will make your picture looks better and more natural-looking.
- It works by ’softening’ the harsh light from your built-in flash by placing a diffuser in front of your your flash.
- The bounced light technique is similar to reflection, but instead of carrying around a cheap white Styrofoam (and looked like an idiot), you point your flash unit upwards.
- This is the pitstops for the light from your flash unit; bulb > ceiling > your friends’ faces.
