About Me

(hey…that’s me!)
Well, my given name is Nur Jehan. I am 100% guy:) I emphasized this fact because my name is usually given to girls, and the prefix Nur, in Arabic and Malay cultures, suggest that I’m a girl, which, I’m not.
I’m far from being an expert in photography. Heck, I don’t even have a camera! (at the time of this writing anyway). But I’ve operated many, and I mean many types of camera, be it Film Point-and-Shoot (PnS), SLR, Digital PnS, Digital SLR, or lomos, even video cameras (VHS, handycam, DV, Hi-8, BetaMAX, etc). The only types of camera that I didn’t have the chances to test are the medium formats and TLR.
Photography isn’t even my course of study. I’m a graduate of Aeronautical Engineering (Study of things that move fast and fly).
So, what makes me an authority in photography, besides having operated many types of cameras? Everyone can do that, right? Flip some manuals here and there, and presto, a camera expert you are!
Simple. I have been a Treasurer of Photography Club in University of Technology Malaysia, one of premiere universities in Malaysia, as early as my 2nd semester, and elected as Vice President after ending my term as a treasurer. Also, during my terms, I have successfully assisted my university’s Audio Visual Department and Chancellery in doing multi-camera productions, covering events that involved delegates from both local and foreign universities, ambassadors, and officials from ministries. During my final year, I also went to Jakarta, Indonesia as a part of technical team hired by Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia.
As for coaching experiences, I have successfully coached 3 batches of Squad Photo, a technical team consisted of chosen members of the Photography Club to assist the University officials in handling live telecasts, both in and out of University. In fact, I even coached the official photographer of the University. He should pay me a part of his salary:)
Also, every February and August each year, I was and am invited to conduct basic photography course for new members. And to add to that, the IT Department occasionally called me for consultations, mainly regarding technical aspects of audio video appliances.
But, like I said, I’m far from being an expert in this field. But I believe in 3 Ds: Direction, Determination, Desire. When we have those values, we can be anything we ever wish.
Till then!
