Intro
Welcome to PhotoPips.com!
This site is dedicated to those average Ali, Ah Chong, Muthu, Joe, Minah, Tambi, Ah Moy, and Jane that didn’t have a clue about this fine art!
Unless you are an alien, majority, and I mean, *majority* of professions, industries, technologies, stuff, thingamajigs, in this Blue Sphere are somehow connected to photography, in many ways possible.
Wanna buy a car? That Enzo Ferrari® looks reeaall fast. Hungry? I want that spaghetti carbonara! Solving a crime? Do you know this man? (flipped out a pic) Geez, he looks deader than dead.
The truth is, whether we like it or not, we took photography for granted. Our iPods, Nokias, Blackberrys, Chevrolets, Protons, owed their very existence in our possesions to photography.
You might be thinking, Spare it mister. How the heck is photography connected to my iPod? Well, before you buy it, does it occur to you to browse catalogs before deciding which kind of it do you want? And, in case you haven’t noticed, the catalogs are full of pictures, that were taken using principles of photography.
Or take a look at cellphones, which, statistically, count for 80% of the gadgets found in every rebellious teen’s pockets, or handbags, or hanged from their necks. The latest cellphones allow us to snap pictures of our ladies giggling, a dog doing his ‘business’ on the yard, or simply enabling us to become paparazzis. And suddenly, everyone’s a photographer!
For business-minded, nothing could shot your sales through the roof better than professionally-taken pictures of your products that are well presented to your potential customers! Especially for food products (Ughh..that sardines seems to have more maggots than a Brazilian rainforest..:)
Okay, enough of the mumbo jumbos.
Why I create this site? Simple. I’ve browsed many, many, and many websites, blogs, forums, newsletter, and read books, magazines, journals, and articles about photography. Very, very, and very few of them offer advices or tutorials that are understandable to those who doesn’t know a single tiny weenie bit about it. Most of them expect you to have at least a basic knowledge of photography.
I also want to explain the weird-sounding photography terms, that some of us finds it, well, weird (Shutter? Is that some kind of door?) and hard to fathom, in a very layman’s term. That is, so everyone can and will understand them. Really, who, in their right mind, would bother to understand what depth-of-field is all about, or what is so negative about negatives?
This is a truly taken-for-granted art, or more accurately, a perfect combination of arts, sciences, technologies, and feats of engineering. I feel that everyone should understand at the very least, the basics of photography, if not, the sciences and advance technologies behind it.
In my words, happy snapping!
